Apa Itu NB IoT?
NB IoT, singkatan dari Narrowband Internet of Things merupakan teknologi yang menggunakan low power wide area network dengan pengembangannya adakah 3GPP. Teknologi ini bertujuan agar komunikasi antar mesin semakin masif dan jangkauan konektivitas yang lebih luas.

Pengimplementasian teknologi NB IoT pada universitas Indonesia dilakukan pada ekosistem sepeda kuning yang mulai berkembang sejak 2010.

Pengimplementasian lainnya juga terjadi pada lingkungan PLN dengan memanfaatkan teknologi ini pada smart meternya.

Selain itu, pihak PLN pun kerap untung, karena dengan ini, potensi fraud atau kecurangan pada meter pelanggan dapat teratasi dan memberikan akurasi tagihan yang lebih tepat.
Keunggulan Narrowband Internet of Things
Pengembangan NB Internet of Things bertujuan untuk memungkinkan proses komunikasi yang efisien serta penggunaan baterai yang tahan lama.
Dulunya, pengembangan teknologi ini hanya berfokus di Eropa. Namun, tetap saja mengalami peluncuran secara komersial dan global pada tahun 2018.
Adapun salah satu keunggulan dari NB IoT adalah biaya modul yang rendah daripada teknologi lain seperti 3G, 4G dan GPRS.
Selain itu, teknologi ini mempunyai lebih banyak seluler pada tiap-tiap sel nya. Perangkat NB IoT menggunakan bandwidth 180KHz, sehingga mampu mendukung lebih dari 100.000 koneksi per sel.
Kemampuan penetrasi baik dalam ruangan maupun bawah tanah pun cukup baik pada teknologi ini.
